3rd Prize - "Falling Snowflakes" by Elise Tang

From Elise

I wrote "Falling Snowflakes" as winter is my favourite season. It describes the arrival of winter, with a white blanket forming on the mountaintop. Despite the cold, people are cheerfully swarming around, ready for skiing. The poem is about my sisters and I, skiing through the trees, making snowmen and having snowball fights. However, winter does not last forever, and spring soon arrives. This poem is all about the cyclical nature of the seasons and the passing of time, reminding us to have fun and to enjoy every minute.

Falling Snowflakes

On top of the mountain, a white blanket forms.

Trees undressed, their bare branches shivering.

Autumn, Summer, Spring, Winter outperforms.

All around me, cheerfully, people swarm.

Their gear in hand, all ready for skiing.

On top of the mountain, a white blanket forms.

Through the trees I go, snow whipped into a storm.

With my sisters, together, we are endeavouring.

Autumn, Summer, Spring, Winter outperforms.

Snowmans made, a pile of snow transforms.

Weapons in hand, the victims hit teetering.

On the mountain, a white blanket forms.

Snow melts, trees sprout, Winter no longer the norm.

Overwhelmed by sadness, waterfalls forming.

Autumn, Summer, Spring, Winter outperforms.

Our time is up, as the cold leaves and bees swarm.

Away we go, til the lakes are glimmering.

On top of the mountain, a white blanket forms.

Autumn, Summer, Spring, Winter outperforms.
